ECA had our first General Meeting of 2024. Main Street Upgrade progress is happening! Mount Barker District Council presented a report at the last council meeting (2nd May) with a motion to support a 3 stage application to PLEC for the powerline undergrounding. This was approved by Council with the first application to PLEC submitted this month.
Jacki extended her thanks to the Council Members and Mayor for their strong support, also to Kristian Wohlstadt and Phil Burton from MBDC. If PLEC grants approval to this first stage application there is potential for the powerline undergrounding to commence in January 2025. Sheila Kavanagh (Echunga Resilience Group) gave a short presentation about the options for supporting our community in the event of a power outage with the establishment of the hall as a community support centre. There are options for both large and small generators and both options have been used by other hills communities. The Echunga Resilience Group needs active members to support this project moving forward. A Battunga district resilience group is now actively working together to gather information on how our communities can best build and foster community resilience and work together to support townships in the 72 hours after an emergency/disaster. It is also a good opportunity to meet local community members from the district. Anyone interested in joining the Echunga Resilience Group please reach out to us at [email protected] to be put in contact with Sheila. Echunga Community Association is seeking photos from the community for a 2025 calendar themed 'Secret Echunga'. We are after closeups, little scenes or objects from the Echunga district. Thirteen photos will be chosen to be included in the calendar. The calendar will be available to purchase at our end of year Christmas function.
Please email your images to [email protected] by September 16th 2024. ECA are trialing the management of both notice boards in the township: "This is a Community Noticeboard. Priority will be given to community organisations based in Echunga. Depending on space, private and business notices will be taken down monthly. A5 size is preferred" Due to incidents of vandalism involving glass jars the Grow Free Cart is currently unable to accept anything other than homegrown produce. It is still accepting donations of Fruit/Vegetables, Herbs, Flowers, Seedlings/Seeds, Rootstock (please label). If you would like to donate/share any non-gardening items or eggs, please use the ‘Echunga Community Chat’ or ‘Buy Nothing Meadows/Echunga/Macclesfield’ Facebook Pages or local noticeboards. Echunga is hosting the Hills Winter Lantern Festival - June 15th 2024! For more information: “Hills Winter Lantern Festival 2024” on Facebook or www.hwlf.com.au
