On the Road to Everywhere ...
Echunga is a vibrant community in the Battunga Country of the Adelaide Hills.
Home to the Peramangk people and settled by Europeans in 1839, Echunga has a rich, fascinating history - notably both the first gold discovery and wine export in South Australia - with original buildings on display from the coaching days.
Today Echunga is home to a busy golf course, oval with sporting facilities and associated sporting clubs, a community owned hall with a monthly dance, a primary school and a unique collection of local shops and businesses.
The main street is lined with original buildings from the coaching days, and the town is surrounded by beautiful farmland on the rolling hills, with grazing animals, vineyards and orchards. Nearby Goldfields in Jupiter Creek and Chapel Hill still allow fossicking and provide lovely scenic walking trails.
The Echunga RSL hosts dawn services in the beautiful memorial gardens on Anzac Day each year and the large Community Park space is nestled adjacent to this space, playing host to walkers, playdates and community picnics. Echunga is also an equestrian destination in the Adelaide Hills, hosts All British Day each year, featuring classic cars, and often draws large crowds of cycling enthusiasts when celebrating the Tour Down Under stages.
Please spend some time exploring the community groups and businesses on offer.
We are inspired to nurture and create connections within our diverse community and for our quiet, rural town.
