Our Community embarked on a project in 2019 with DCMB, to develop a Township Plan. The plan will “guide the future of Echunga”, by identifying, defining and prioritising ways in which we could improve our township over the next 20 years. The ECA has been actively supporting the process by helping to facilitate the gathering of feedback/input from all reaches of the community. Additionally, members of the community offered feedback direct to DCMB and via other community groups. The final plan was published by DCMB in December 2019 and can be accessed from the DCMB Website, HERE.
Sadly our annual Jingle & Mingle event, co-hosted with the Echunga Football Club at the oval, was cancelled due to the extreme heat and catastrophic fire danger rating. What a huge shame as it was shaping up to be a lot of fun for families and kids.... sit tight for next year's event!
Woodgate Park is a small playground on the corner of Woodgate & Hagen Street in the Township. It is oriented at toddlers with a few basic playground items and a bench chair, but has been unkept and unused. Armed with pruners, chainsaws, rakes, shovels and trailers, a small and energic crew of our members held a working bee to trim back overgrown shrubbery and clean up the space in preparation for a revamp! We were recently awarded a grant to renovate the park with a new park bench, picnic table, some additional items for the playground, and a meandering path through the trees.
‘...take what you need, give what you can...’
A Grow Free cart is a medium where we can give to the wider community, without the need for reciprocation or acknowledgment. ...and Echunga now has our very own! Our Community Grow Free Cart is located on the verandah of the Echunga Memorial Institute (aka the Townhall), between the Post Office and Echunga Hair & Beauty. The community is encouraged to leave fresh produce, herbs, seedlings/seeds and egg cartons but please do not leave homemade products, fresh eggs or household goods. The Echunga Community Breakfast was first held in June 2018, and by popular demand, was repeated again in June 2019 with a standout audience! Thanks to the Echunga Memorial Institute for the venue. It was again a wonderful opportunity to celebrate community spirit, bring everyone together, get connected and for those newer in the township, get initiated!
An impressive breakfast spread, live Echunga radio, real coffee, an impressive raffle (full of local goodies), and good company… both years we’ve had a fantastic turnout and look forward to setting a date for the next! An enthusiastic crew of our members took to Bunnings today ... as sausage chefs! We're always looking for ways to raise funds that can be put towards projects within and for our community. Today was a successful day ... we had a strong crew who looked the part in our new ECA branded aprons!
