ECHUNGA
'HEART OF GOLD'

Welcome to Echunga

On the Road to Everywhere ...

Nestled in the rolling hills of Battunga Country in the Adelaide Hills, Echunga is a vibrant rural town with a heart of gold. Home to the Peramangk people and settled by Europeans in 1839, Echunga played a key role in South Australia’s early history — from the state’s first gold discovery to early wine exports.

Today, Echunga blends historic charm with a warm, connected community. Original coaching-era buildings line the main street, while surrounding farmland, vineyards, and orchards frame the town’s peaceful rural setting.

Community Life in Echunga offers something for everyone:
  • A primary school and playgroups at the school and church
  • Local sporting clubs, a busy golf course, and recreation grounds
  • A community-owned hall for events and celebrations
  • Echunga Community Park, Woodgate Park, the Recreation Grounds, walking trails and the Echunga RSL Memorial Gardens
  • Cafés, local shops, and pub
  • An active CFS and a strong equestrian community

Explore the nearby Goldfields at Jupiter Creek and Chapel Hill, where fossicking is still permitted and stroll or ride the scenic walking trails as they wind through historic landscapes.

Echunga proudly hosts popular events such as All British Day and regularly welcomes cycling fans during the Tour Down Under, drawing visitors from across the region.

We invite you to explore our community groups & local businesses and the connections that make Echunga a truly special place to live and visit.
