About.
The SA Country Fire service, Echunga Brigade, is a volunteer-based fire service, committed to serving the community in all types of emergency service. Our mission is to protect life, property and the environment from fire and other emergencies. The Echunga Brigade was initially recognised as a Emergency Fire Service brigade, establish in 1939. Local sources have indicated however, that there were active members of the community who sought to prevent and extinguish bushfires well before this time. In 1976, the government passed the Country Fires Act, which set up the SA Country Fire Service (CFS), of which the Echunga Brigade is now one of 425 Brigades across SA and a part of SACFS Heysen Group.
