A wrap on 2018 - the year that was....
The inaugural Community Breakfast was an outstanding success. In December we worked with the Echunga Football club to host the Christmas Jingle and Mingle. These two community social events will run again in 2019.
Planter boxes supplied and maintained by the ECA were installed to improve the look of our main street. The cost of the boxes has been covered by generous sponsorship from community members. The boxes are marked with our slogan ‘ Echunga – Heart of Gold’.
A very productive clean-up day was held at our local CFS Station with Mt Barker Council chipping in and fixing some sunken drain at the front of the site. This was followed up by a general street clean up and some backbreaking work by our merry band of helpers.
A successful grant application enabled the purchase of a water trailer to be utilised for planter box watering and potentially hired out to landholders for tree watering.
There was a lot of interest in the 2019 Tour Down Under, with Echunga taking out the award for best decorated town / Stage Four. Well done and thanks to everyone who helped with balloons, streamers and bunting.
Echunga was selected by Mount Barker Council as one of only two towns that will have their township plan process begin in 2019. This is a significant step for our community and a major opportunity for everyone to have their say about how our town should present, and the kinds of facilities we would like to enjoy.
Looking ahead to 2019
The ECA, in conjunction with all Echunga's community groups, will be reaching out to our community to encourage and promote interaction with the Mount Barker Council during the consultative phase of the Township Plan and beyond. Every individual, community group and business owner will have a perspective on how they see Echunga into the future. It is important that all of these voices get heard.
At the same time, the ECA also wants to facilitate the social cohesiveness of residents in Echunga and District with social events and creating online connections.
